visiblephoton-deactivated201402 said: (cont'd)... company called Bish limited which is now incorporated into the company 'industrial marine engineering ltd'. I was wondering if you can help me with some more information about the company, its founders and the move to Australia. I notice you have some very precious photos of Albert Bish, his wife and son Keith Bish. I would really like to use such photos in my little book if you would allow me to (with credit) or any other photos you may have of these characters/family. Many thanks

Hi Zaheer, yes Keith was my Uncle, his younger brother Laurence (Laurie) was my father.

Gideon Bish was the founder of Bish Ltd around 1908. Gideon was a Blacksmith in Dury, south of Auckland. Has wife had a condition that the doctor said would improve in a warmer climate, hence the move to Fiji.

Bish Limited was sold after Albert’s death when I was very small, my understanding was that it was sold to Marlow’s (a family with a similar engineering business) in the very early 1960’s - I could be wrong though?!

(In the 1980’s there were still some cast iron manhole covers with Bish Ltd on them in the streets of Suva)

What I gather is that Keith left for Sydney in the 50’s. When Albert died the company and home was sold and Doris, Colleen (Laurie’s younger sister) and her daughter Talei moved to Sydney and purchased a house in Matraville.

My dad (and us) followed a bit later. I’m not sure how long a year or two??

I don’t mind you using the photos, the Tumblr ones are low resolution, I have larger files on hand. You may have noticed the tumblr is a slow work in progress I may have other photos elsewhere.

I never knew Cherie, who was her mum and dad?

Cheers

Patrick
